Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party
From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
